A gluten-free diet is recommended in the treatment of wheat allergies and coeliac disease. It is a diet that excludes foods containing gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and triticale. It's thought that about 1 in 100 people in the UK are estimated to have coeliac disease which affects the gastrointestinal tract.
