I don't drink coffee. This item is for my partner who says it is the best decaf coffee he knows.
Lovely to know the producers are being paid properly, and we are contributing to their livelihood.
I can't tell the difference between this and caffeinated coffee and neither can my friends. When I give it to them and then offer a second cup they often refuse at first as they're worried about having too much caffeine.rnrnBeen a supporter of Cafe Direct for years so this is a perfect combination - fair trade through a great company and excellent coffee without the caffeine buzz (I get that occasionally from their other coffees)
This is great tasting Decaffeinated coffee that works well in our cafetiere. And it's Fair Trade. Cafe Direct are one of the longest running Fair Trade coffee providers, so you know you're dealing with a good brand.

I've only just been compelled to move to decaffeinated coffee and still looking for a good alternative. This coffee is quite the best yet, even though that won't stop me carrying on my research. The coffee seems to be ground almost too fine for a cafetiere.

I bought this with a certain amount of scepticism, as I find it difficult to get a decaff coffee with a decent flavour; my search is now over, as I find this has a good strong coffee taste, but I know I can drink it a little later in the day than regular coffee.

This is a the only decaffeinated coffee which actually tastes like coffee. It is fair trade. None of my local supermarkets now stock it!

Q: How is the caffeine removed - are chemicals used?
A: Good Morning, Many thanks for your query. Cafedirect uses two methods to decaffeinate their coffee, The first is called “the CO2 method” and is certified as organic by the Soil Association. Only pressurised CO2 and water are used in this method, so it does not involve any synthetic chemicals. It does, however, require a large amount of electricity to power the process. This process is used for all Decaffeinated Organic Freeze Dried Coffee. The second method is called “the Methylene Chloride method” and uses a chemical solvent to extract the caffeine from the coffee. This method is used to decaffeinate all non-organic products. It is a cheaper and less energy-intensive process than the CO2 method. The Methylene Chloride method will have been used to decaffeinate Cafedirect Decaffeinated Fresh Ground Coffee - 227g. I hope this helps.

Q: Hi is this coffee 100% caffeine free? Thank you
A: Hi there, Thanks for your query. According to Cafedirects website, decaf coffee still contains caffeiene and it is important to never remove all of the caffeine in the coffee bean as this would remove most of the valuble compunds that give the bean its wonderful flavour and aroma. In the EU a coffee product can only be considered decaffeinated if at least 99.9% of its caffeine content is removed, which would leave about 0.1mg of caffeine in your average cup of decaffeinated coffee. I would say that as until recently the UK was part of the EU, and Cafedirect is a UK based company they will have to stick to the EUs ruling of decaf coffee needing 99.9% of its caffeine removed, however it will not be exactly 100%. For more information you can check out this blog post Cafedirect wrote in May 2020. https://www.cafedirect.co.uk/shop/how-is-coffee-decaffeinated/ I hope this helps, Kind regards.
