Tea is usually grown on plantations and is one of the most important export and foreign exchange for many countries. There are over 30 countries that produce tea and it is recognised as a prime agricultural product, with a large role in the Fairtrade system. Usually, tea does not yield a price on the international markets adequate for a minimum standard of life for tea pickers and plantation workers and working and living conditions are often poor. Fairtrade is working towards solving these problems for tea pickers and workers by providing better pay, better resources and long term business relationships.
