Burnt Sugar

Burnt Sugar has been hailed as making 'The world’s best fudge', according to The Observer Food Monthly. The company themselves put this down to knowing exactly where the ingredients that go to make up their scrummy range of confectionery comes from.

In 2006 the founder of Burnt Sugar made a conscious decision to source Fair Trade sugar and was meeting with recently certified Fair Trade sugar farmers in West Kenya less than a year later. This collaboration with the WEKO co-operation ensures that the farmers receive a guaranteed fair price for their unrefined sugar.

Not content with supporting one worthy cause, on her return, Justine (the Burnt Sugar supremo), became heavily involved with Book Aid International, an organisation set up to send books and reading materials to developing countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Burnt Sugar remains an active supporter of this project.

They have also been certified a Carbon Zero company by co2balance.com for their work in offsetting their carbon emissions by funding energy efficient light bulb projects in Kenya.
