Although the Freeplay X-Ray can be cranked and used immediately, to achieve maximum efficiency, Freeplay recommend an initial conditioning charge. This is best achieved with a 16 hour AC charge via the mini USB port.
Please Note: The X-Ray flashlight can be charged via a mini USB lead from your computer, or with any other mini-USB universal charger. Freeplay does not include a charging adaptor with the majority of its products in order to minimise the environmental impact of producing unneccessary charging devices when many people already own a suitable adaptor.
However if you are in need of a charger, Freeplay's versatile and internationally compatible Eco-Charge Mini-USB AC adaptor is perfect for the job.

Q: Is it possible to replace the rechargeable batteries in this torch when they wear out? (My experience with cheap wind-up torches is that they don't last long before the harsh charging conditions of a hand-wound dynamo wear them out.)
Thanks
A: Hi, Freeplay assure us that this Wind Up Torch "lasts virtually forever", however, the battery is replaceable, but soldering will be required to replace it.
I hope this helps. Robyn.
