Komodo create fun clothing full of spirit
Komodo was started by Joe Komodo in 1988 to create fun clothing full of spirit. Komodo’s goal was to have a great time, work with nice people and give something back to Bali and Katmandu. As with all businesses there were plenty of challenges along the way; but the challenges and hurdles only made success sweeter when it came. Two key triumphs stand out for them. First, the Komodo team raised money by climbing a Mount Aucanquilcha for the millennium sunrise. This made them the people at the highest altitude in the world and therefore closest to the new millennium sun when it arrived. The money this raised from fashion industry friends was then used by Komodo to build six schools in Tibet. Secondly, over the last few years in Nepal, Revolutionary Maoists have been shutting down garment factories. However Komodo is proud to tell us that their workers united together and told the Revolutionaries that they were happy with their conditions and pay. This convinced the Maoists to leave Komodo’s factory alone – a rare stamp of approval indeed. One cannot buy that kind of loyalty. It only comes from being authentic.
