Soap nuts are a natural surfactant and have been around for thousands of years, also known as Soap Berries, which grow on the sapindus genus tree. Soap nuts are fractured, so not whole nuts. The zip on the bag for containing them in the wash failed after just the 3rd wash, so had to remove them from the drum and washing (bit of a pain to have to do, but not awful). It has been used since without problems, so will see how long it lasts.
