Bloom & Nora Reusable Sanitary Pads

Today we want to introduce you to one of our newest brands – Bloom & Nora. We’ve received feedback regarding stocking reusable sanitary products before, and you’ll be happy to know we’ve listened, and they are finally here!

About Bloom & Nora

Bloom & NoraYou may have heard of TotsBots, the reusable nappies that we have recently started stocking. Bloom & Nora are made by the same people who have put their love and energy into the nappy brand, and have created another amazing product this time for those who have periods.

The name Bloom & Nora is inspired by the early American Feminist Amelia Bloomer who was a fierce supporter and advocate of the Victorian Dress Reform, which sought to make fashion for women more practical. The founders of Bloom & Nora want all women to be able to have a comfortable monthly cycle, and have helped by providing super soft cloth sanitary pads.

With a super absorbent core, waterproof layer and no leaks binding, there is no fear of any little accidents. The pads are comfortable to wear with their contoured slim fit and secure popper tabs.

There are two different types of pad to choose from – the Bloom and the Nora – depending on what suits you. Also available are a waterproof bathroom bag and travel bag to keep your reusable pads safe and out of site before it’s time to wash them.

The Bloom cloth sanitary pads are available in bright, bold colours to brighten up your period.

Nora

The Nora pads are for those who prefer bright whites! With a stain repellent interior they will stay whiter for longer!

Using Cloth Sanitary Pads

There are four different sizes available – mini, midi, maxi and mighty. Each size is suitable for a different flow so you can choose exactly which ones will suit your needs.

The pads should be changed ever 4-6 hours, apart from the mighty pads which are designed to last through the night.

You should wash the pads within 48 hours of use. Wash with a non-bio powder and avoid fabric conditioner and this can reduce the absorbent capacity of the pads. It’s a good idea to give the pads a quick cold rinse straight after use to prevent any stains, and you should give them a few washes before use to get them up to full absorbency.

Benefits For You

Bloom & Nora reusable sanitary pads are made without any harmful chemicals and are Oeko-tex certified. Regular brands of disposable pads and tampons have been found to contain a range of toxins, dioxins and carcinogens that absolutely should be going nowhere near the most sensitive parts of your body.

These reusable pads are super soft, making them so much more comfortable to wear than regular disposables, especially with those adhesive strips that seem to love sticking to places they shouldn’t!

Bloom & Nora pads are also more absorbent than regular brands of disposables. Not only does this mean that you can save up to 9p per use (saving you around £2000 in the long run), they can also be used up to 150 times!

Benefits for the Planet

The biggest benefit of cloth sanitary pads is that they generate much less waste than disposables. A woman can use up to 15,000 sanitary products during her menstruating years, and these can either end up in landfill where they will take hundreds of years to degrade, or on our beaches.

According to Bloom & Nora:

In 2013 the Marine Conservation Society held a beach clean across 96.7km of UK coast-line. They collected 428 tampons and tampon applicators per 4.4km and 1291 sanitary pads, panty liners and backing strips per 13.3km! (Source: Go Real).

Not only that, but the manufacturing process of regular disposable sanitary products is resource and chemical intensive, adding further strain on to the planet.

So why aren’t you using them yet?! Get your hands on some cloth sanitary pads from Bloom & Nora ASAP, and don’t forget to tell us what you think in the comments below.
