Eczema awareness week

Created by the National Eczema Society, Eczema Awareness Week runs September 15th-22nd and seeks to improve public knowledge of this commonly misunderstood condition. It’s a week of various special events – seminars, fundraisers, Q&As, etc – encouraging people to learn more, share their experiences and spread the word.

What is eczema?

Eczema, also known as dermatitis, is a chronic condition that renders the skin red, dry and itchy. Roughly 1 in 5 children suffer from eczema – the condition often improves as the subject get older, but about 1 in 10 adults continue to experience it throughout their lives. It also has close links to other conditions like asthma and hay fever.

Eczema varies in severity – though rarely dangerous, it can increase the risk of severe skin infections like cellulitis. In addition, it can have a serious impact on quality of life. Disturbed sleep is a particular common effect, leading to daytime fatigue. Self-consciousness and low self-esteem are also frequently reported among eczema sufferers.

MooGoo skincare

Various medical treatments are available for eczema, including steroid creams – but those seeking a milder, more natural alternative may find what they’re looking for in MooGoo’s skincare range.

  • Sensitive Skin Balm is specially formulated for people with eczema or psoriasis. Lightweight and gentle, it’s rich in natural oils and soothing ingredients like aloe vera.
  • Milk Wash is pH-balanced and free from SLS, meaning it can cleanse the skin without causing unnecessary drying or irritation.
  • Soothing MSM Moisturiser is light, hypoallergenic and full of natural oils, making it ideal for sensitive skin.

Don’t forget to spread a little kindness and support this Eczema Awareness Week – and if you’re one of the millions of people in the UK who experience the condition, maybe there’s something here that can help you.

Brand Story: Zao

Zao create premium certified organic, 100% natural, vegan, cruelty free, sustainable and refillable makeup.

Zao makeup is owned by Cosm’Eika France and was co-founded in 2012 by four friends, David Reccole, Phillipe Donnat, Yvan Rouvier and Salima Macozzi Reccole. All four friends love nature and are passionate and conscious of the impact of consumption on the environment.

This is where the idea of Zao came from. The brand was created to align with the strong values of its owners where there was a passion for creating the first rechargeable makeup brand. It was important that the products were 100% natural and because of this they were also certified organic by Ecocert.

Natural care for dry skin

We have a handy guide to caring for dry skin, courtesy of our friends at Green People. For people with dry skin, sometimes using an everyday moisturiser isn’t enough, no matter how rich the ingredients are – I have personal experience with this, and know that caring for dry skin can be pretty time-consuming, and upsetting when nothing seems to work. One of my favourite brands, Green People were actually formed by founder Charlotte Vøhtz when her young daughter Sandra was battling skin allergies and eczema. Do You Know The Dangers Of Microbeads?

“The numbers are staggering: there are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean. Of that mass, 269,000 tons float on the surface, while some four billion plastic microfibers per square kilometre litter the deep sea.” – Laura Parker in National Geographic. Have you noticed that sometimes in your exfoliators, shower gels, facewashes, toothpastes, etc, contain little balls? These plastic balls are called microbeads, and they’re becoming a bit of a problem. Continue reading Do You Know The Dangers Of Microbeads?
