Let’s be honest, as much as we want them to be mornings just aren’t fun. I’m sure I’m not the only one who likes to stay in bed for half an hour after my alarm has gone off, only to have to rush to get ready for work! Here are a few tips that will help you on the road to becoming a morning person.
Get a Good Night’s Sleep
The trick to being a morning person starts before you go to sleep. Make sure you turn off any electrical items – phones, iPads, TVs etc. – about an hour before you plan on going to sleep. The light emitted from devices can trick your mind into thinking it’s daytime, so it won’t be ready to go to sleep. Try reading before bed, make sure you’re relaxed maybe by doing a few stretches or deep breathing exercises. Having a regular bedtime is also a good idea to get your body used to a sleeping pattern which will help you get a good night’s rest.
Make a Morning Playlist
Make a playlist of songs that make you feel encouraged and empowered, or that you just like to hear. Listening to music while I get ready makes me feel happier and more energised, which is just what you need in the morning!
Gentle stretching when you wake up can make you feel energised and ready for the day. Stretching will help to loosen your muscles whilst easing nay aches and pains to prepare you for the day ahead. Try these Yoga Stretches you can do without even leaving your bed!
Have a healthy, filling breakfast.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so don’t skip it whatever you do. Set aside some time in the morning to make a tasty, filling breakfast that you can enjoy and that will keep you full until lunch time. If you’re the type of person who grabs something quick as an afterthought, why not try overnight oats? This is made the night before with oats, natural yogurt and your favourite fruit all mixed together an left in the fridge overnight, so you don’t even have to prepare anything when you wake up.
Start with something you enjoy
Begin your day with something you really enjoy – your favourite flavour of tea, a great cup of coffee, or even treat yourself to half an hour reading. It will be easier to get out of bed if you have something to look forward to!
