This Saturday on World Fair Trade Day, the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) wants you to ‘Be An Agent for Change’. WFTO is a global network of producers, marketers, exporters, importers, wholesalers and retailers committed to Fair Trade.
WFTO aims to enable producers to improve their livelihoods and communities through Fair Trade, making sure their voices are heard in order to stop the exploitation of workers in developing countries for the benefit of the Western World.
Members of WFTO must adhere to the Ten Principles of Fair Trade, standards set in place as a way to fight against trade injustices and discrimination.
Ten Principles of Fair Trade
WFTO prescribes 10 principles that Fair Trade organisations must follow. These organisations and companies are monitored to ensure the principles are being upheld. You can see these 10 principles below:
What can you do?
Show solidarity on World Fair Trade day by forming your own human chain with friends, family or co-workers. You can print out visuals and take a selfie, upload it to your favourite social media site with the hashtags #FairTradeDay and #AgentForChange – don’t forget to tag us too so we can see your photos!
One of our biggest clothing brands – People Tree – is a guaranteed member of WFTO, so when you buy any of their fashion pieces you can rest assured they are sourced from Fair Trade producers. This also means the People Tree works with other members of WFTO and other like-minded people and companies to raise awareness for the need for Fair Trade.
We also have a great range of homeware from WFTO suppliers and producers, with new pieces added every season.
We stock a full range of Fairtrade products, from Fair Trade clothing to Fair Trade groceries !
