Nomads is a contemporary Fairtrade clothing brand in which everything produced is made with natural and organic fibres. Along with this, Nomads celebrates great design and traditional artisan techniques.
Nomads’ mission is to prove that it is possible to live a stylish, sustainable life by creating high quality and long-lasting clothing. They also wish to increase the awareness of the need to shop responsibly.
Nomads has been creating ethical and Fairtrade clothing for over 30 years. Its founders Duncan and Vicky met in India where they fell in love with the culture and decided to invest in their first selection of Fairtrade handicrafts. This was the starting point for their now lifelong relationships they have with the artisan producers and Fairtrade factories in India. They now design and create contemporary clothing that is 100% ethically produced and celebrates artisan skills. Nomads strives to use the best quality natural fibres and environmentally friendly processes with their clothes designed to last.
The natural fibres that Nomads use include:
- Organic cotton
- Cruelty-free merino wool
Nomads describe their natural fibres as breathable, durable, sustainable, biodegradable, a natural insulator and good for sensitive skin. Choosing natural fibres also benefits the environment, farmers, producers and consumers.
Nomads’ supply chain is extremely important to them and they are committed to ethical trade. Their supply chain is filled with like-minded people who all share the ethos of trading responsibly. They visit their suppliers in India regularly throughout the year to ensure that standards are being met and work with the teams on future designs.
Nomads are also active in supporting charities which include TAMWED (Tamil Nadu / West Devon) and Newlife. TAMWED is a registered charity that aims to help overcome poverty in areas of Southern India. Nomads supports TAMWED through annual donations from profits and regular fundraising events. Newlife provides help and support to children with disabilities or terminal illnesses and their families. Nomads donates the garments they cannot sell to Newlife. Nomads are also members of GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standards), BAFTS (The British Association of Fair Trade Shops) and Common Objective.
Nomads’ ethics don’t stop with their clothes. Their packaging is biodegradable, and all paper is FSC certified using vegetable-based inks.
